Background

Stigma remains a major barrier to early intervention, treatment engagement, recovery, and social inclusion for people living with schizophrenia.

In recognition of World Schizophrenia Day (24th May 2026), this Research Topic aims to advance awareness and education around the multifaceted nature of stigma, including public, self-, and structural stigma. We invite contributions that explore the mechanisms, impacts, and measurement of stigma, as well as interventions designed to reduce it across clinical and community settings. Particular emphasis is placed on work with clear translational relevance, demonstrating how findings can inform best practices in clinical care, public health strategies, policy development, and educational and awareness initiatives.

By bringing together interdisciplinary perspectives, including those of people with lived experience, this collection seeks to support more effective, evidence-based approaches to reducing stigma and improving outcomes in schizophrenia.
